Former Black Stars striker Augustine Arhinful has aired his sentiments about the functional systems in Ghana. This came ahead before the naming of a new Normalisation committee.
About the Committee
The Ghana Normalization Committed is made up of four members. They include- Kofi Amoah who is the chairman, Lucy Quist, lawyer Dua Adonten and Naa Odofoley Nortey.
According to FIFA the work of the Normalization Committee is to run the daily affairs of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). They have to review and ensure that the GFA is in compliance with the statutes of FIFA especially art.15. Moreover, the committed should run elections which are proper and fair for the next GFA executive committee.
The new Normalization Committed has until March 2019 to complete its tasks.
In June an exposé about the corrupt officials of the Ghana Football Association caused a fracas. Since then all football activities have been at a halt.
The GFA was suspended after a court order was granted to the Attorney General Gloria Akuffo. In an explosive documentary, a journalist showcased how senior officials and referees were soliciting bribes. Apparently, the bribes were worth millions of dollars.
Former GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi was accused of asking $11 million from journalists who posed as investors. The documentary sent shockwaves across the country and the GFA executive committee was suspended for 90 days by the FIFA Association(FA).
A two-man team which had been liaised by FIFA to run the GFA.
According to Arhinful, all the things which were done behind the scenes should be put an end. This means that the FA should clean the system. Arhinful believes that the FA did not undertake any harsh measures on the officials.
The problems were quite evident even before the documentary. The FA should have forced Nanatakyi to resign immediately the documentary was out.
Arhinful has been very vocal about the crisis in football Ghana. He has tried to avail his services to the government to help with the crisis.
When the Normalization Committee was formed, former Ghana captain Charles "CK'' Akonor shared his sentiments. According to him, the committee would have been perfect if it was made up of more retired footballers.
Some of his choices include players like Abedi [Ayew] Pele, Tony Baffoe, as well as Sammy Kufuor and Augustine Arhinful and the issues would have been tackled by professionals. These former footballers know exactly what is ailing the football scene. However, Akonor still believes that the four members of the committee know what they are doing.
