Music as an art and business is a a very exciting but difficult task. As such, there are too many stories of talents and companies that have crashed after beginning spritely their adventure into music.
As such, YEN.com.gh compiles a list of five artistes who have managed to release hit after hit in and over the last 10 years years. These names are not just popular but they are associated with quality too.
Many artistes have been quite popular in the last few years and that would make some feel like these artistes have been around for 10 or so years. An example is Shatta Wale who is not included in here.
Samini is a man from the late 1990s. He has demonstrated his ability to switch between genres from ragga to highlife.
It was inconceivable to have drawn the list without Samini. His ability to drop hits after hits has not gone unnoticed.
Around 2006, very few would have given the young and skinny man from Tema any chance of being one of the biggest musical talents from Africa in 10 years. Sarkodie wrote his name in gold a bit too easily.
But if you are a talented rapper who marked your time and took your chances, no one should fault you for reaching greatness so quickly. Sarkodie is now being talked about as perhaps the best ever Ghanaian rapper.
3. Daddy Lumba
Perhaps, he has not been consistent as the rest of the names in this group. But Daddy Lumba no less deserves the spot.
It can be said that the true mark of genius is how Lumba can leave the scene every two years after dropping a hit that would last for 20 years. That is why he is here.
Becca is the only female artiste on our list. And rightly so.
If the industry is thought to be hard, it should be said that it is much harder for women. And so for Becca to remain as the female music act in Ghana in the last 10 years is a testament to her strength and talent.
R2Bees have mass appeal because apart from their music, they have swag. They bring something to the table that makes them appealing to an ever younger population.
The duo are definitely Ghana's best group in the last decade or so. We can say this with very little struggle.
