Information available to YEN.com.gh shows that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has arrived in the Upper West Region.
According to a report by MyNewsGH.com, he will lead a relief team that will provide support to the victims of the Bagre Dam spillage disaster.
The Bagre Dam is a multipurpose dam on the White Volta located near Bagré Village in Burkina Faso.
Thousands of people have been displaced since the incident occurred, and 34 people have allegedly lost their lives, according to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).
NADMO’s Director-General, Eric Nana Agyemang, is reported to have said that “Swathes of farmlands have been consumed by flood waters and lives are under threat. The situation is very bad.”
The second gentleman of the land landed in the regional capital around 7:40 am on Saturday, September 22, 2018, and is set to support victims of the near fatal flood with some items at a brief ceremony.
The Vice President is also expected to receive a brief from NADMO, the Navy and other rescue operations teams on the situation on the ground.
