A 32-year-old man is currently in the grips of the Kumasi Police for reportedly stealing a dustbin belonging to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).
The suspect, Mohammed Lufai, was arrested for stealing a waste bin meant for the KMA’s “Operation Keep The City Clean And Green.”
The ‘Operation Keep the City Green and Clean’ is a deliberate move by authorities to rid the Garden City of dirt and filth.

It is also meant to educate the public against indiscriminate disposal of waste around the city.
Waste bins were therefore procured and placed at some vantage points within the Central Business District to aid in keeping the city of Kumasi clean.
However, the suspect took advantage of the situation and attempted to steal one of the dustbins, reports said.
He was unable to escape, though, after being spotted by one of the street cleaners around the area.
Mohammed was subsequently arrested by the Police following a series of interrogations.
The suspect, however, maintains that he did not steal, explaining that he only saw the dustbin at a dumping site and took it.
“The Woman saw Mohammed carrying the dustbin. She confronted him and the guy told him he found the ‘Operation Keep the City Clean and Green’ dustbin on dumping a site. But according to our checks he removed the one in front of the racecourse and he was going to sell it. He was arrested by those around and I followed them to the Suame police station,” an official of the KMA is quoted as saying my MyNewsGh.Com.
The suspect is currently in Police custody, as the matter continues to be investigated.
