African football legend Samuel Eto'o has stated clearly that Barcelona and Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi is the best player in the world.

This comes after Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric was named as the FIFA best player for the year 2018 at a ceremony held in London on Monday night, September 24.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi won the Spanish La Liga title last season, but he was unable to make it to the final three shortlist of the FIFA The Best award.

Samuel Eto'o who played with Lionel Messi at Barcelona has now explained that his former teammates remains the best in the world.

''Lionel Messi for us will always be the best player in the world. The human beings have to choose and they chose the three players who have done well too.

''But for people like me, it doesn't change the fact the Lionel Messi is the best in the world,'' the 37-year-old explained in a video twitted by Goal.
