Popular journalist and newscaster, Israel Laryea has defended himself against insults from Ghanaian businessman, Nana Appiah Mensah who is popularly known as NAM 1.
According to the Joy FM/TV presenter, it is highly unnecessary for NAM 1 to attack him instead of focusing on solving problems concerning one of his companies, Menzgold Ghana.
NAM 1 whose Menzgold has been shut down following troubles with the Securities and Exchanges Commission (SEC), in an uncharacteristic fashion took to Instagram on Tuesday to blast the broadcaster.
“Hello Israel Laryea, today I celebrate your stupidity and retarded mindedness. Set up a provision store today in a kiosk and employ just one Ghanaian. That is more than the pursuit of this evil smear campaign agenda. Maybe you need to be reminded, I am a businessman and not a politician. You can’t break me! Business is not a thing for the pope. Think about it. God bless you," he posted.
NAM 1's attack followed a video report by Israel Laryea about Menzgold Ghana Limited’s office in the United Kingdom which suggested the outfit was not operating a business model like that in Ghana.
In the video report which has since gone viral, Laryea indicated that in July 2018, the businessman took a photo with some staff members at Berkerley Square in London. This, Laryea went on, was to signify the opening of Menzgold’s office in London.
A trip into the building, however, revealed that Menzgold is not listed as one of the companies in the building. This was however explained by a receptionist in the building that Menzgold indeed has an office in the building.
Laryea's report has led to many concluding that the Menzgold London office was just hoax. A conclusion which has obviously not pleased NAM 1.
But in a swift response to NAM's 1 insults, the Joy FM/TV newscaster pointed out that he was only doing his work as a journalist and must therefore not be the focus of the attack.
"No need for insults Mr Appiah-Mensah. If the people who are jittery about losing their funds do this, I can understand. You need to focus and figure out how best to manage the situation. I'm not SEC, neither am I BoG, just a journalist sharing my observations. #FOCUS," he said.
Meanwhile, on-air-personality, Afia Schwarznegger has waded into the exchanges between Nana Appiah Mensah and Israel Laryea.
Taking to social media, Afia Schwar, who has been on the neck of NAM 1 to refund a GHC4m investment made with Menzgold, wondered by the businessman is yet to respond to messages she posed to him.
She went on to say that she is aware Mensah’s accounts have been frozen by the Bank of Ghana, and again, his company breached confidentiality by releasing her mother’s phone number.
