EPL giants Arsenal on Wednesday, September 26 kicked-off their Carabao Cup campaign in style after defeating Championship side Brentford 3-1 at the Emirates stadium to seal a spot in the fourth round of the competition.
The Gunners came into the match as slight favourites to progress to the next stage of the competition owing to their incredible run this season where they have won back to back matches including in the Europa League.
The match saw Unai Emery make several changes to his side, handing Smith Rowe, Alex Iwobi and Danny Welbeck starts.
Arsenal, who were runners-up last season in the tournament started the encounter brightly, with Danny Welbeck heading home just five minutes into the clash from Matteo Guendouzi's cross.
The former Manchester United made it 2-0 in the 37th minute, capitalising on Nacho Monreal's clever assist.
Upon the resumption of the second-half, the hosts went a goal down as Alan Judge pulled one back for the Championship side in the 58th minute.
Brentford's efforts to restore parity before stoppage time did not pay off as substitute Alexander Lacazette made it 3-1 to seal a comfortable victory for the Gunners as he pounced on a loose ball and slotted home.
Following the comfortable victory, Arsenal now joins Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspurs who have booked a spot in the fourth round of the competition.
