- Andre Silva scores the first and the second goal of the match
- Wissam Ben Yedder netted the third to seal the win for Sevilla
Andre Silva’s brace and Wissam Ben Yedder goal in the first half was all Sevilla needed to thrash Real Madrid 3-0 on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, in La Liga showdown.
The encounter which took place at the Estadio Ramon saw Real Madrid being the only unbeaten team in the Spanish topflight, but all that changed in the 17th minute after Navas broke down the right, before delivering a low cross into Silva’s path to place the ball past Courtois for the opener.
On the 20th minute mark Lukas Modric tried a response for Real Madrid, getting the ball in the middle of the park for a goal opportunity, but Sevilla cleared their lines.
On the 21st Sevilla got their second of the match after a fast counter-attack found Silva free in the box to score from a loose ball off Courtois’s save to convert.
Bale tried in vain to pull one back for me on the 24th minute, but he could only hit the post, with a powerful effort from distance.
Few minute later the Welshman received a booking for a late challenge on Vazquez with Real Madrid still two goals down.
Kroos also had a shot wide of the post with a long-range effort on the 31st minute as the Los Blancos tried to get into the game.
The third goal could have arrived for Sevilla on the 34th minute, but Vazquez’s curling effort, could only hit the crossbar to keep scores still at 2-0 in favour of Sevilla.
Yedder netted the third in the 39th minute to see Sevilla head into the break with a 3-0 advantage.
The goal was created off a short corner-kick routine which allowed Ever Banega to deliver the ball into the box.
Raphael Varane met the cross with a clearing header but could only find Vazquez just outside the penalty area.
The midfielder attempted a volley a pass forward which met Ben Yedder onside the area to smash past Courtois.
Sevilla goalie Tomas Vaclik made a top class save to stop Bale from registering just past the hour, before the Wales captain strike was wide off the mark.
Mariano Diaz also tried his luck for the away side in the 71st minute, but the summer arrival effort, could only fly over the crossbar.
The Los Blancos were in for more troubles in the last 15 minutes, when Marcelo limped off the field with a calf problem, which could likely stop him from this weekend's Madrid derby with Atletico Madrid.
Vazquez should have made it four for Sevilla in the 80th minute, but he fired his chance over the crossbar from close range.
At the end of 90 minutes the scoreboard read 3-0 in favour of the home side. A result that saw the Los Blancos suffer their first defeat of the 2018/19 campaign.
The Los Blancos now sit 2nd in La Liga log with 13 points from six matches.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has opened to the door to Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo if they intend to return to the Bernabeu.
The two iconic figures left the club this summer for different reasons as they both decided to face new challenges in their careers.
Zidane announced his retirement with Los Blancos barely days after winning his third straight Champions League title as manager.
