About the college
Bishop Herman College was a private mission school when the very first batch of BIHECANS finished their Secondary School Certificate course, which ran from 1952 to 1955. The college was, however, later, absorbed into the public school system of Ghana, as a Government-Assisted College in the same year, 1955. The School ran the only GCE Ordinary Level Programme until the year 1962 when the Sixth Form Course was introduced into the system giving room for the Advanced Level pre-university programme. Like the majority of Ghana’s secondary schools, Bishop Herman College currently runs the Senior Secondary School Certificate Programme as the GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels were from the system in the year 1996. Great Missionaries like Rev. Fr. John Beeckers, Rev. Frs. Velboer, Brockhoff, Manshanden, Weyden, Zijlstra, Giesen, Leo Brouwer, Peter de Vries, Breukel, Myerscough, and Van Dijk were the ones who actively raised funds through the Diocese of Keta and in Europe to facilitate the opening of the Bishop Herman College.

Bishop Herman College location
This great school is located on the Aloryi Hills of Kpando. The dignitaries responsible for selecting the site were probably aware of the site’s spiritual significance; the apex of moral upbringing and academic pursuits. The site’s isolation from the Kpando Township also serves another important purpose; it constrains the would-be "hothead" or impulsive students to leave campus without permission, knowing that the absence of tall vegetation around the perimeter of the school makes it easy for them to be spotted by instructors and the Headmaster of the school.
