- Some NDC bigwigs have criticized former Mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu, over his decision to contest in the party’s presidential primaries
- MP for Kumbungu Constituency, Ras Mubarak has thus suggested the NDC is gradually becoming a big 'joke'
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has become a big joke for allowing just anyone to pick up forms to contest for its flagbearership, Member of Parliament of Kumbungu Constituency, Ras Mubarak, has said.
According to him, the party has been reduced to “the butt of public jokes” because just anybody at all can pick up forms.
The NDC legislator said there is the need for the party to amend its constitution in order to ensure that only serious and qualified people can contest to become presidential candidates.
Mr. Mubarak made the comment in a post on his official Facebook page.
His comments come after more than ten persons confirmed that they will contest for the NDC’s flagbearership come December.
“Until the NDC makes serious reforms in our constitution, we would reduce our great party to the butt of public jokes if every Tom, Dickson and Harry is allowed to pick up forms to contest to be the party’s presidential candidate,” he wrote.
Former president John Dramani Mahama is the frontrunner going into the party’s election, however, he is set to be challenged by other NDC personalities who have declared their intentions of leading the party in 2020.
So far, more than 10 persons have confirmed that they will contest as flagbearers of the NDC.
These include Dr. Ekow Spio Garbah, a former Trades and Industry Minister under the John Mahama government; Former Vice Chancellor of the University for Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Prof. Joshua Alabi, and Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo, Alban Bagbin.
Last week, the former Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly boss, Kojo Bonsu, became the latest to also pick up forms to contest.
