- Some inmates of the Nsawam prison have alleged that officers of the facilty are snatching their wives
- They recounted some of the experiences on how they 'lost' their wives
Some inmates of the Nsawam Medium Prisons are calling for the immediate removal of the leadership of the prison officers who have been assigned to manage the facility citing issues including loss of their wives.
According to the inmates, they were going to embark on a demonstration if their request was not granted and were going to ensure that they would make the facility 'unmanageable'.
The inmates indicated that they were bent on triggering their demonstration option since the leadership of the prisons had for some time, been treating them unfairly.
Some of the inmates alleged that certain prison officers had been snatching their wives from them when they came around for visits.
“One of the in-charge officers (name withheld) has been exchanging telephone numbers with our wives when they come around to visit us. He will then call to propose to them and will end up telling them all manner of things. Most of us here, our marriages are on the rocks because of these officers", one inmate lamented.
They are supposed to be professionals but their actions have proven otherwise. The authorities have to change them immediately”, the inmate continued.
Another inmate recounted that what some of the officers had allegedly in recent times, resorted to dividing any food item their visitors brought them into two; giving the inmate half and ask the visitors to return the other half.
“They are not giving us good food and when your visitor brings you food from the house, they will order for the food to be divided into two and give you half," the inmate revealed.
"On Thursday, September 27, 2018, one of my family members from the Brong Ahafo Region visited me. She brought along some food but was ordered to divide the food item into two and return half home. The other half which was allowed into the yard and was supposed to be given to me also lost at the visitor’s room. The ordeal we are going through must stop,” he added.
The inmates indicated that they had endured these “unfortunate incidents” for some time now and could not allow it to go on.
They were therefore calling for the immediate removal or replacement of the officers in charge.
In signing off, they revealed that failure to do so would invariable cause a state of 'confusion' in the prison because they were going to embark on a massive demonstration to reveal happenings in the prison to the rest of the world.
