Former President John Mahama has called on supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to halt the formation of fan clubs.

According to him, those who have the well-being of the party at heart should instead come on board as members.

Interacting with party members during his tour of the Central Region, he added that those who wished to see the NDC return to power need to join hands with those to board to make it happen.

“And so as much as possible, the voluntary groups youth for something…‘Market women for Mahama’, Witches for Mahama’, ‘Watchmen for Mahama’…I mean everything for Mahama must stop. If you want Mahama, join the party, work with the executives and deliver victory so that we come back into office,” he explained.

Mahama, who’s battling 12 others, including the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, former Trade and Industry Minister, Ekow Spio-Garbrah and former Board Chairman of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Professor Joshua Alabi, for the opportunity to lead the NDC into the 2020 elections, told the party’s delegates in Lambushie, Upper West region that: “We are discouraging voluntary groups.”

He further stated that God allowed the defeat to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to happen, so that Ghanaians can compare and contrast.

He went on to say that his comeback will provide him the opportunity to correct the wrongs of the past.

John Mahama again stated that the 2020 elections will present the NDC the opportunity to again offer visionary leadership, which will be driven by a commitment to create opportunities for everyone.
