Sacks of weed discovered at Koforidua Methodist Church

- Sacks of weed have reportedly been found concealed in a church in Koforidua

- The sacks are believed to have been hidden in.the church by suspected criminals

Congregants of Bethel Society of the Methodist Church, Ghana, in Koforidua Anlo Town were on Sunday morning shocked when huge quantities of dried substances suspected to be marijuana were found hidden in the corner of the church.

The substance which was concealed in a fertilizer and polythene bags was found covered with a discarded banner of the Church.

According to a report YEN.com.gh sighted on Starrfmonline.com, leaders of the local congregation reported the incident to the police after which investigators came to the scene and after taking inventory, set the substance on fire at the church premises.

Suspected criminals have taken advantage of the uncompleted state of the Church building as a hideout for smoking and nefarious activities.

Joseph Asiam, Steward of Bethel Society of the Methodist Church-Koforidua Anlo Town Circuit said sometimes the church members keep vigil to lay ambush in attempt to arrest the perpetrators but they do not succeed.

According to him, today’s incident has come as a shock considering the large quantity of marijuana found in their church.

He said the Church leadership is considering hiring a private security to guard the facility while the church mobilize funds to complete the church building.

The New Juaben Police has begun investigations into the matter.

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh earlier reported that a pastor's attempt to save his church's offering has ended in disaster as he got drowned in a flood caused by a heavy downpour.

All the money accrued from the offering taken was stored in the church's offertory bowl and was supposed to be taken to the bank on Friday.

The pastor, Reverend Isaac Assiamah organised a mega crusade on Wednesday and Thursday at Apapam, a town in Kyebi in the Eastern Region.

However, on Thursday night, it rained so heavily that the whole town got flooded.

In an attempt to rescue the offertory bowl, the pastor was reported to have been drowned in the flood.
