A third-year student affiliated to the University Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is currently battling for his life at the University’s Hospital in Kumasi after he was brutalised by the school’s security on Friday night.
A third-year student whose name was not disclosed by YEN.com.gh sources has been reportedly brutally beaten by campus security at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
According to MyNewsGh.com, the victim, a member of the University Hall, popularly known as Katanga, has lost his memory as a result of severe wounds he suffered on his head.
The incident is reported to have happened on Friday night. The disturbing nature of the victim's wounds are too explicit for us to publish, unfortunately.
11 other students as well as one old student were arrested on the same night by the campus security and later handed over to the KNUST Police.
They have been accused of holding a vigil that was not sanctioned by authorities. It is however reported that the said vigil at the forecourt of University Hall was peaceful.
Parents and guardians of the arrested students are said to have thronged the police station seeking the release of their children. Some have asked the government to intervene.
University Hall, formerly an all-boys hall of residence, was earlier this year mixed by authorities.
Although the authorities cited reasons of challenges with population, detractors claim it is because authorities want to soften the masculinity of an all-male population.
