YEN.com.gh has sighted a video of how some 'angry' students of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) set the car of the school's Dean of Students on fire in Monday's demo.
The video sighted by YEN.com.gh on Instagram page Dailycelebritiesnews.com, saw the car already burning with the windscreen vandalized.
Students in the school went 'berserk' on Monday, October 22, 2018 as they embarked on a demonstration to register their displeasure over treatment meted out to some students by security personnel.
Widespread chaos was recorded in some parts of the school as the students reportedly damaged some school properties including vandalizing the school's administration block.
Other photos in the possession of YEN.com.gh pointed to the fact that students, led by the SRC president, embarked on a planned demo they communicated earlier.
The pictures showed the students wearing black clothes and holding signs protesting the recent treatment meted out to them.
Pictures showed some mayhem and confusion caused by the students as they marched to express their displeasure over current happenings in the school.
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that some aggrieved students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) were set to demonstrate over the recent brutality meted out on students by security personnel at the University.
The student body decided to boycott classes on Monday, October 22, 2018 as a way of registering their displeasure with happenings on campus.
However, Vice Chancellor of the school Professor Kwasi Obiri Danso, in a broadcast text message to all students, called on them to disregard the decision to boycott their lectures.
There has been a lot of tension in the school following the university's decision to convert all the unisex halls into mixed halls.
Since the decision was taken, some students and alumni have constantly kicked against it and have clearly stated their reluctance to support such an idea.
On Friday, the issue took another twist after 11 students including an alumnus of the university were arrested and put behind bars at the KNUST police station.
The students were reportedly beaten and brutalised by the University’s security personnel before being handed to the Police for holding a vigil without permission.
This subsequently led to some parents storming the police station to demand the release of their wards after they were detained..
The students hope to catch the attention of university's Chancellor, the Asantehene, the President and the Minister of Education after the demonstration.
