A visually-impaired unemployed graduate of the University of Ghana has been evicted from his rented room at Madina in Accra after failing to renew his rent for a year.
Amos Atanga Atia is a graduate of the University of Ghana from 2016 but the visually-impaired man has been kicked out of his accommodation due to his failure to pay for rent because he has no job to support himself.
It is unclear what Atia's educational qualification is but MyNewsGh.com reports that he has been looking for a job since leaving the nation's premier university.
Atia is a native of the Upper East Region but continued to stay in Madina in a rented room after graduation.
Apparently, he had fears about going home indicating to a friend that he feared for his for his life because of what a spiritual advisor told him.
The report continues that Atia went out one day only to return and to be greeted with a locked room with a new padlock because his tenure had elapsed and he had no money on him to renew his stay.
According to a friend, when the Nation Builder’s Corps (NABCO) applications began, he tried reaching Atia through phone calls but he would not pick any of those calls.
It was upon a visit to Atia that he (Atia) revealed that the spiritual advisor had told him to not answer calls too for sometime.
Whatever his fears, Mynewsgh.com is trying to come to Atia's aid by giving contact numbers to the public.
Atia's issue highlights an ongoing problem with disability employment and homelessnes in general in Ghana.
