GMA boss defends himself over a GHC10,000 lunch scandal

The Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), Kwame Owusu, has shed light on the details of the GHC10,000 spent on lunch, which has gained comments from a cross-section of Ghanaians.

According to him, contrary to media reports, the amount was spent on food for 17 management members, and not eight people, as being speculated.

An amount of GHC135,000 was also allegedly spent on an end of year party at the Luxe Suites Hotel, a company he owns.

He however explained that the amount was to cover food for 500 people and not 100 as being speculated.

Owusu added that the rumours are simply an attempt to destroy his reputation, as there is no iota of truth in them.

Some Ghanaians however disagreed with him and expressed their views on the matter:

One social media user declared that it simply isn't good for Ghana

Another recommended that he should clean the streets for a year

A third guessed that most people present at the meeting were not supposed to be there

Another wondered if the food was cooked in heaven

Yet another social media user questioned if the lunch was imported

And another wondered if the food eaten gave them eternal life

Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, has directed the board of the Ghana Maritime Authority to investigate the alleged misappropriations.

The Transport Minister in a statement said the board is expected to make its findings available to him for an appropriate decision to be made.
