79 presidential candidates confirmed for Nigeria’s 2019 election

- 79 candidates have been confirmed by Nigeria's electoral commission to contest for presidency

- Incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari, has declared his interest in running for office again

- The elections are scheduled to take place in February 2019

Information available to YEN.com.gh shows that 79 people have been given the green light to contest for presidency in Nigeria.

The 79 candidates are associated with a total of 91 political parties.

The election is scheduled to take place in February 2019, and the incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari, has indicated his interest in running again.

The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, said a total of 6,352 candidates have also been nominated for the country's bicameral legislature.

Yakubu added that preparations for the elections are proceeding in earnest and are in line with the detailed timetable and schedule of activities earlier released by the electoral body.
