In the face of two different bans from FIFA, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, embattled former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has been handed a lifetime ban from the top football governing body.
The lifetime ban follows an explosive investigation by award-winning journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas titled 'Number 12' which sought to expose the rot in football administration in Ghana and beyond.
As part of Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi's lifetime ban, he is to pay a fine of approximately $500,000. Failure on his part to pay the fine would force the Ghana Football Association to cough up the amount.
Excerpts of the statement served to the former GFA boss read, "The adjudicatory chamber found Mr. Nyantakyi guilty of having violated art. 19 (Conflict of interests), art.21 (bribery and corruption) and art. 22 (commission) of FIFA Code o Ethics, the 2012 edition.
As a consequence, Mr. Nyantakyi is banned for life from all football-related activities (administrative, sports and any other) at both national and international level. Additionally, a fine of CHF 500,000 has been imposed on Mr. Nyantakyi," part of the statement reads.
However, Mr Nyantakyi has expressed his disappointment in the ruling by FIFA and has indicated his readiness to appeal against it.
Nyantakyi recently celebrated his birthday in grand style and was seen cutting his cake which had the inscription, "His Excellency".
