Maurice Ampaw speaks on Asamoah Gyan annulling his marriage

Maurice Ampaw speaks on Asamoah Gyan annulling his marriage

Lawyer and legal personality Maurice Ampaw has refused to issue blame in the ongoing drama involving Ghana Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan and her wife and their impending anunulment of marriage.

This comes as a surprise to many people because part of the popularity of Ampaw was built on very public feuds with Gyan.

Four years ago when the Ghana captain lost his musician friend Castro and another woman Janet Bandu, Ampaw threatened a legal suit against Gyan.

A year later in 2015, a woman who alleged that she was abused by Asamoah Gyan, hired Maurice Ampaw to represent her in legal suit.

On other issues involving the Ghana captain, Ampaw has not hidden his harshest criticisms of Ghana's all-time top scorer.

But the lawyer refused to blame Gyan in this case like he has done in former times. He rather explained that an annulment of a marriage is different from divorce.

An annulment of a marriage, Amapw said, is done when one party in the marriage goes to court to present some evidence that sort to suggest that a marriage never happened.

He pointed that the task lies on Gyan to prove that a marriage never occurred between himself and Gifty Gyan. It will be the court's business to accept any evidence as proof.

Citing some examples, Ampaw stated that for some, instead of bringing their families to perform the marriage rights, friends are used as witnesses. Sometimes, they hire the services of some people.

According to the lawyers of Ghana international Asamoah Gyan, the footballer is not looking to divorce his wife. Instead, Gyan is asking a court of law to annul the marriage.
