Ghana police congratulate themselves on handling of Adentan riots

The Ghana Police Service has commended its management of the violence on Thursday, November 8 when the people Adenta protested the neglect of a footbridge over the Adentan-Madina Highway.

YEN.com.gh reported on Thursday that residents of Adentan in Greater Accra engaged security officials in a violent protest over what the residents claim is the local government's unwillingness to complete a footbridge on the highway.

Now Classfmonline.com reports that the police service believes the law enforcement personnel deployed to control the riots, adopted the appropriate measures in controlling the violent crowd.

The success for the police service, the report says, is measured in the fact that only one person got injured.

In a statement assuring the residents of the area of their safety, the director-general of public affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) David Eklu, is quoted as saying: “Preliminary investigations into yesterday’s rioting show that the police employed the appropriate riot control methods.

"However, in the process, a boy of 14 years was injured and was treated and discharged at the Nyaho Clinic in Accra. There is no record of any other injuries related to the riot control”.

The protesters on Thursday, mounted roadblocks and burnt tyres in protest of what they said was the neglect of the footbridge on the Madina-Adentan Highway.

This was in response to a car accident,in which the victim, a student of the West African Senior High School (WASS), is now confirmed dead.
