Michelle Obama reveals she suffered miscarriage, used IVF to conceive Malia and Sasha

- The former US First Lady, Michelle Obama has opened up on a miscarriage she experienced two decade ago

- This is despite the power couple having been famous for keeping the details of their personal life private

- According to Michelle, she went on to use in vitro fertilization to conceive their two daughters

- She made the revelations ahead of the release of her memoir, Becoming

- She further said the miscarriage left them feeling alone, failed and broken

Former United States of America (USA) first lady, Michelle Obama, has opened up on her difficult and painful journey while being ushered to motherhood.

Michelle, revealed that she used IVF treatment to conceive her two daughters Malia and Sasha two decades ago.

Mitchell Obama claimed she used IVF to conceive her two daughters because age was catching up with her.

In a deeply personal interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, on Friday, November, 9 the former first lady said this was after she suffered a miscarriage.

“I felt like I failed because I did not know how common miscarriages were because we don’t talk about them,” the former first lady said

The 54-year-old mother of two further revealed she had to undergo In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) to conceive her two daughters after the miscarriage.

She noted the decision to undergo the procedure was reached after she realised age was catching up with her.

Mitchell Obama used IVF to conceive her daughters

The 54-year-old mother of two had to undergo IVF to conceive her two daughters after a miscarriage.

“I realized that as I was 34 and 35, we had to do IVF,” she said

She explained it is her desire to help other women which motivates her openness on her past life experiences

“I think it's the worst thing that we do to each other as women, not share the truth about our bodies and how they work, and how they don't work...we sit in our own pain, thinking that somehow we are broken,” she said.

The revelations come ahead of Tuesday, November 13, release of her memoir “Becoming,” in which she writes openly about everything from growing up in Chicago to confronting racism.

Mitchell Obama used IVF to conceive her daughters

The former occupants of the White House who have been married since 1992 have a union that has benefited from therapy.

In the memoir, Michelle also details the early days of her relationship with her husband, including their first kiss.

“As soon as I allowed myself to feel anything for Barack, the feelings came rushing, a toppling blast of lust, gratitude, fulfillment and wonder.” she writes in her book

The former occupants of the White House who have been married since 1992 have a union that has benefited from therapy.

“Marriage counseling for us was one of those ways where we learned how to talk out our differences,” Michelle Obama informed Roberts.

She further advices young couples who struggle and think that somehow there is something wrong with them to make use of the same therapy they used.

“And I want them to know that Michelle and Barack Obama, who have a phenomenal marriage and who love each other, we work on our marriage. And we get help with our marriage when we need it,” she writes.

The book also include heavy criticism for the current President Donald Trump where Michelle specifically rips him for his behavior toward women.
