Ghana’s president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has disclosed that plans are advanced to establish two new universities in the northern part of the country.
Speaking at the 25th anniversary celebration of the University for Development Studies (UDS) on Saturday, November 10, 2018, he stated that the bill for gazetting the universities is currently with the Attorney-General.
According to him, once the process is complete, the bill will be sent to parliament for ratification.
With that done, the Wa campus of UDS will be referred to as the University of Business Integrated Development Studies.
The Navrongo campus, he added, will also be known as the University of Technology and Applied Sciences.
Congratulating successive Governing Councils, Vice Chancellors, managements, teaching and non-teaching staff of UDS, the President noted that UDS is no longer the University of last resort, as may have been the case yesteryear, but is today one of the best tertiary institutions in the entire country.
