It its 107-year history, Ghanaian football giant Accra Hearts of Oak has seen a lot of ups and downs. From continental trophies to threats of relegation, the Rainbow Club seem to have seen it all.
But on Monday, November 12, a day after the club chalked 107 years, it has announced that the team will now be kitted by world-famous sporting wear brand, Umbro.
A few minutes after the official Hearts of Oak Twitter account released documents on the deal, the British company also confirmed it on the platform saying: "Tree-mendous: we're delighted to announce a new partnership with Accra Hearts Of Oak, one of Ghana's leading teams #Phobians".
Both Hearts of Oak and Umbro did not specify how much is involved but the former explained that Umbro will offer technical support as well as "competition wear" and "training apparel and equipment".
Umbro kit among many other European clubs, CSKA Moscow, PSV Eindhoven, Schalke 04 and Everton.
New jersey designs have not yet been released by Umbro. It is not clear if the design process will be opened to fans to contribute as is done with some famous European clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester United.
Ghanaian football is itself in crisis after the investigative documentary of Anas Aremeyaw Anas brought football administration and the local top-flight league to a standstill.
Hearts of Oak have seen a renewed enthusiasm under new CEO Mark Noonan. The American has promised to make the club a continental brand again after a decade of falling behind.
The reconstruction of the image of Hearts of Oak has seen management looking to secure deals to complete a training pitches and a boarding facility for the team at Pobiman just outside Accra.
