Currently, Mavis Hawa Koomson is the Member of Parliament representing the constituents of Awutu Senya East. She won this seat during the last general elections. She remains the incumbent Member of Parliament to-date

During the naming of the cabinet by President Nana Akufo-Addo, in May 2017, Mavis was made one of the ministers that were to form the cabinet. This was a major achievement in her political journey as she became part of the most valued members of the government who were supposed to help and spearhead all the major decision making processes.
She was among the nineteen ministers who were named that day. The President named Mavis Hawa Koomson minister of Special Development Initiative.
