Speaker of parliament, Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye, has advised Ghanaians to stop drinking alcoholic beverages.
Addressing parliament on Wednesday, November 14, in connection with the celebration of World Diabetes Day, Prof Oquaye reiterated the role the media plays in the censorship of advertisement or media activities.
He has also called on the National Media Commission (NMC) to brief parliament on methods that have been adopted to regulate advertisement of alcoholic beverages in the Ghanaian media.
According to him, the NMC through the Ministry of Communication, should brief the House on ways and means to avoid advertisements that encourages people to drink unduly.
He added: “In all sincerity if a Ghanaian cannot eat normally without a drink, that person should consult the doctor because it may be due to a medical condition.
he therefore announced his commitment to direct committees responsible for communication take it up together with the Media Commission.
