Alleged marriage certificate of Asamoah Gyan's wife and 'first husband' pops up

A document purporting to be a certificate of a marriage between Gifty, wife of Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan and another man has popped up online.

The document, as sighted by YEN.com.gh, suggests that one Sandra Gifty Gyamesi married a man called Eugene Odame Antwi on the 26th of February, 2002, at the Tema Municipal Assembly.

The authenticity of the certificate cannot be immediately verified but the photo is fast going viral. And word on the streets indicates that the name on the certificate may be the maiden name of Gyan's wife.

If it happens to be authentic, then the certificate lends credence to reports that the Black Stars captain is angry and wants to annul their marriage because Gifty was already married before they met.

It will be recalled that YEN.com.gh was one of the first media organisations to report that the Turkey-based player had filed a suit at a court in Accra, seeking to leave Gifty, his wife of five years and partner for about 15 years.

The report also had it that Gyan had questioned the paternity of their kids and had asked for a DNA test on all of their three children.

While it had been widely reported that Gyan was divorcing Gifty, the footballer came out to clarify he was rather annulling their marriage and not divorcing his wife.

Gyan, however, failed to give reasons for his decision leaving many to speculate that he was annulling the marriage because he had found out that Gifty was already married to another man before meeting him.

Considering that Gyan and Gifty met somewhere in 2003, dated for 10 years and even had a son before they officially married in 2013, the 2002 marriage certificate, if it happens to be for Gifty, goes a long way to suggest that she might have deceived Gyan.

But Gifty has already responded to these reports explaining she married the man in question with Gyan’s full knowledge and consent.

According to her, she and Gyan were already dating but needed a visa to seek medical treatment outside, thus they both agreed she should enter the sham marriage to facilitate her visa application.

Meanwhile, proceedings for the case has started with the court ordering Asamoah Gyan to amend the name of his wife on his application for annulment of the marriage.

Gyan had reportedly used referred to his wife as Gifty Oware (her maiden name) instead of Gifty Gyan.
