The police commander for the Asiwa district, ASP Dennis Boateng, has been hospitalized following an exchange of gunfire with unknown people.
Information available to YEN.com.gh shows that his driver, as well as two community police unit personnel also sustained injuries.
The incident occurred on Sunday, November 18, 2018, after ASP Boateng led a team to investigate complaints resulting from the mounting of a roadblock.
Shots were reportedly fired from the bush as he reached the place where the standoff was taking place.
One suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident, and police officials are searching for the others.
The Ashanti regional police commander, DCOP Kwasi Duku, rushed to the scene of the incident and has been briefed on what transpired.
A week ago, unknown people attacked a farmer in the same town, as he sent his ward to school.
YEN.com.gh understands that the 59-year-old victim, known as Obodai, met his assailants, who pounced on him and inflicted several injuries.
His lifeless body was found on a bushy road with machete wounds to the head, shoulders, arms and other parts of the body.
Three people have however been arrested in connection with the incident.
