- The 61-year-old seasoned politician beat his only contender, Koku Anyidoho, nicknamed ‘The Bull’, (a Deputy General Secretary of Operations), who campaigned heavily to unseat his boss
The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Asiedu Nketia, has successfully been re-elected.
The NDC held its 9th Annual Delegates Congress on Saturday, November 17, at the Fantasy Dome inside the Accra Trade Fair Center.
The man popularly known as General Mosquito successfully retained his position following a landslide victory over his competitor, Koku Anyidoho.
Out of the 9,000 votes cast, Mr. Nketia polled a whopping 6644 to emerge victor and retain his position.
Meanwhile, his only competitor Koku Anyidoho managed to poll just 1655 of the total votes cast at the Congress.
Reacting to the outcome of the result, Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, Ade Coker said he wasn’t surprised that Mr. Nketia recorded a landslide victory.
According to him, it was a big mistake on the part Koku Anyidoho contest General Mosquito in the first place.
He said if Koku, who was the Deputy General Secretary had consulted him, he would have advised him against the move.
Other big winners at the NDC’s 9th Annual Delegates Congress are Joshua Akamba, who won the National Organiser position.
Ako Gunn was also elected the deputy Communications Director, while Sammy Gyamfi was elected National Communicator of the party.
The First Vice Chairman of the party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, was also elected as the new National Chair of the NDC.
He was declared winner after contesting four persons for the party’s top job.
