A young man identified as Bunmiano Barcelona D’greatest has taken to his Facebook profile call out an Uber driver.
According to Bunmiano he mistakenly transferred the huge sum of one million naira which translates into over 13,000 cedis to the driver's account instead of 3,400 naira (GHC45).
The transfer was supposed to be payment to the driver after he transported Bunmiano's friend to a destination.
In a lengthy post on Facebook, Bunmiano explained that the friend came to visit him and when it was time to leave, he (Bunmiano) requested an Uber to take the friend home. He later received a call that the charge was 4,800 naira (GHC63).
Bunmiano then requested the driver's account details to send the money. Later, he mistakenly sent another one million naira which was meant for a family member’s treatment to the driver who had been added to the beneficiary list of Bunmiano for the fare payment which was actually supposed to be 3,400 (GHC45).
Bunmiano continued that after realising his mistake, he contacted the driver who after some back and forth admitted that he had received the money and promised to transfer it back. But after some time tossing Bunmiano, the driver refused to return the money and even stopped picking his calls.
The disturbed young man forward a complaint to Uber who responded by asking for evidence to back up his claim. Bunmiano said he took screenshots of the first (inflated fare) and second payment and sent.
Uber acknowledged receiving the evidence with a promise of looking into the matter. But it has been four weeks now and nothing concrete has happened so far for the young man to receive his money.
Bunmiano revealed that though the driver's bank account has been frozen, he was yet to get his one million naira and even the police are demanding a cut of 150,000 naira before they would help him the get the money.
