Former president John Dramani Mahama has congratulated all winners from the just ended Annual Delegates Congress of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, the party must show Ghanaians that it was really learnt its lessons from the heavy defeat it suffered in the 2016 elections.
The NDC held its 9th Annual Delegates Congress on Saturday, November 17, at the Fantasy Dome inside the Accra Trade Fair Center.
Over 9000 delegates gathered at the venue to vote, as the process stretched all through Saturday to late Sunday evening.
Among the biggest winners were Johnson Asiedu Nketia who easily dispatched off Koku Anyidoho to retain his position as General Secretary.
Also, Joshua Akamba and Sammy Gyamfi were voted as National Organiser and Director of Communications, respectively.
Mahama said all contestants are worthy to have been elected and urged both winners and losers to unite in pushing the NDC to victory in 2020.
In a Facebook post, the ex-president said Ghanaians are looking up to the party and they cannot afford to disappoint the country.
“Ghanaians are looking up to us. We cannot expect to win 2020 by default of NPP's poor performance in Government.
“Our return to power must be based on a humble persuasive approach to Ghanaians that we are not only a better alternative, but that we have learnt the lessons of our 2016 defeat,” Mahama wrote.
He added that the NDC must demonstrate to Ghanaians that they will offer better service than the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) if voted back into power in 2020.
