- Robbers have shot a police officer in the eye in the Ashanti Region

A police officer with the Ejura Divisional Police Command in the Ashanti Region, Bernard Kyei is currently on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) following severe injuries he sustained during a robbery attack.
Kyei, YEN.com.gh gathers, was shot in the eye by armed robbers at Ejura Aframso in the Ashanti Region.
According to a Joy News report, the officer and his colleagues were responding to a distress call concerning an armed robbery incident in the area on Sunday night.
The report stated that the robbers had blocked the and were robbing a line of vehicles but one driver heading for Kumasi refused to stop.

The robbers shot him in the eye and he died instantly leading to the distress call.
In order to outwit the robbers from noticing them immediately, the police are said o have gone to the scene in a private car for their investigations.
But the armed robbers started shooting at the private car when they realised the driver was officer Kyei.

The police officers exchanged fire with the robbers but Kyei was unfortunately hit in the eye during the shootout.

Kyei was rushed to the Ejura District Hospital and was later referred to the KATH where he is scheduled for surgery to remove the bullet in his eye.
In other news, YEN.com.gh earlier reported the story of an African couple, Bekezela and Thulile Bhebhe, based in the United Kingdom, who are facing a possible jail term for committing insurance fraud.
According to the report, Bekezela, faked his own death between August 1 and September 30, 2016.
This was to ensure that his wife could get the almost GHC2.5 million reward in life insurance.
