An unidentified taxi driver has reportedly knocked down a 60-year-old woman, killing her in the process.
The suspect also seriously injured two other people, and they have been rushed to the Asamankese hospital for treatment.
The accident occurred at Auntie-Martha, an area at Asamankese in the Eastern region.
YEN.com.gh understands that the driver was speeding as he tried to escape from police officials, after he failed to stop at a checkpoint.
He subsequently lost control of the steering wheel and run into three women by the side of the road.
One of the two injured persons has been referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for emergency treatment.
The taxi driver who also sustained injuries and has been treated at the Asamankese Hospital.
ACP Lovelace Tefuto, the Divisional Commander of Asamankese confirmed the accident, adding that investigations will commence soon.
He added that the driver has been arrested after he went into hiding.
According to him, the taxi driver was running away, on assumption that he was being chased by the police.
