- Six people have been reported dead in gory accident involving a Metro Mass bus and a Daewoo Matiz cab
- The accident occurred somewhere on the Sunyani-Techiman Highway
- Four of the deceased have been identified by the police as teachers
Six people have reportedly died after a Metro Mass Transit (MMT) bus crashed into a Daewoo Matiz taxi cab at the outskirts of Bonkwae on the Sunyani-Techiman Highway in the Brong Ahafo Region.
According to a report YEN.com.gh sighted on Graphic.com.gh, the police have confirmed the accident saying it occurred at about 3.00 pm on Monday.
The report stated that the driver of the MMT bus with registration number GE 9270 - Z, Ransford Kumi veered off his lane into that of the oncoming cab with registration number GX 2501- 15 forcing a collision.
Five occupants in the Daewoo Matiz died instantly while the sixth victim died after being rushed to the SDA Hospital at Techiman.
Three of the deceased have been identified as Yaw Joe, 40, driver of the taxicab, Grace Gyamea, 50, Yakubu Adams, 32, while the three others are yet to be identified.
Four of the deceased (two males and two females), the Techiman municipal commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, ASP Andrews Okonenge revealed, were teachers.
According to him, the teachers were stationed at Mmaampehia and its environs on the Sunyani-Techiman stretch.
They were returning to Techiman where they lived after classes when the incident occurred.
The accident in the Brong Ahafo Region comes just a few days after another accident claimed the lives of six girls in the Central Region.
The girls, all pupils of the Assin Atobease Primary School in the Assin Central District, were crushed to death to by an articulator truck loaded with cement.
