Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has paid tribute to the late Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko, describing him as a friend and a true patriot.
The Ayawaso West Wuogon MP was confirmed dead on the evening of Wednesday, November 21, 2018.
The 61-year-old is reported to have died in the United States (US), where he had been on admission for some time.
The lawmaker was reportedly battling with an illness and had been admitted at the Ridge Hospital in Accra before being sent abroad after his condition stabilised.
News of the MP’s death have sparked tributes from far and near, with many sending words of commiseration to his family.
The Vice President is the latest to pay tribute to the late Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko.
In a post on Facebook, Dr. Bawumia said he is shocked by the demise of the MP, who he described as “a true patriot, a friend and brother”.
“I have learnt with grief and shock, the sudden death of Hon. Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko, MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, popularly known as '3da ho plain.',” he wrote.
“Hon. Kyeremateng Agyarko was a true patriot, a friend and brother. He will forever be missed by me, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and the entire nation.
“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Damirifa due, Hon,” he added.
The late Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko was a prominent member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and was the brother of former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.
He first entered Parliament in 2012 as MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon when he succeeded the current Chief of Staff, Frema Opare, and went on to successfully retain the seat during the 2016 elections.
The late MP also once served as the Chief Executive of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) during the Kufour era.
