- Liverpool had revealed to Sadio Mane at the end of last term they will open talks over an extension
- The pair of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino signed new deal after the summer World Cup
- Mane is now expected to earn £150,000 a week at Anfield
Liverpool star Sadio Mane has ended reports linking him with a switch to Real Madrid after penning a new long-term deal with the Premier League giants.
According to a statement on the club's website, Liverpool have already handed improved deals to the pair of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, while informing Mane that he will also be rewarded for his contributions to the club’s progress in the Champions League last term.
The Senegal star was on top of his game enroute to the final - scoring in every knockout round, and against eventual winners Real Madrid.
Liverpool’s Michael Edwards and Mane's representative Sascha Empacher continued holding discussions, but have now sealed an extension, which will see the Senegalese salary hit over £150,000 per week.
Interestingly, Mane, who arrived Anfield from Southampton in 2016, initially, signed a five-year deal as he was not ready to move to another club.
After last summer World Cup in Russia he has been linked with a switch to the Los Blancos but nothing concrete happened.
Reacting moments after penning the new deal, the 26-year-old told the club's website that he was excited to remain with the Jurgen Klopp tutored-side.
“I am very happy, very happy to extend my time at Liverpool.
“It is a great day for me and now I am looking forward to everything – to helping the team, to helping the club achieve our dreams and, especially, to win trophies.
“I've always said, when I knew I had a chance to come here I didn't have to think twice. The right club in the right moment and with the right coach as well. I came here and was very happy. For me, I have made the best decision in my career,” submitted a visibly excited Mane.
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh previously had reported Sadio Mane was not in the best mood after he was booed by Senegal’s Teranga Lions fans during their 1-0 win over Equatorial Guinea in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match.
The Group A encounter at Estadio de Bata saw the Liverpool star fail to convert a glorious opportunity to increase Senegal lead, and the miss did not go down well with the fans at the stands, even though the west African nation already gained passage with the slim victory for next summer AFCON in Cameroon.
However, at the blast of the final whistle, Mane could hardly hold back the tears as he broke down and required his jersey to clean up before his teammates came to assist him into the dressing room.
