- President Akufo-Addo has said the national cathedral will be constructed to the glory of God
- His comment follows the many controversies surrounding the proposed construction and the objections raised by some Ghanaians
- The president said he can do all through Christ who strengthens him
Despite the many controversies surrounding the proposed construction of a national cathedral, President Akufo-Addo said it will be built.
The president’s final decision comes on the heels of the many objections raised by some Ghanaians.
He reportedly made this declaration when he graced the 125th anniversary celebration of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra.
In a report sighted by YEN.com.gh on Kasapafmonline.com, Akufo-Addo quoted Philippians 4:13, to reiterate his determination to construction the national cathedral.
That scripture reads: “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”.
He explained that he was of the firm belief that Christ would help him to construct the national cathedral to the glory of God.
He stated that Ghanaians also scoffed at his policies including the Free SHS, One District One Factory, however, all these have become a reality.
Therefore, the president believes nothing can change his decision and determination to construct the national cathedral.
He further called for the support of the Catholic Church in Ghana and the entire Christian community to back his administration and its policies in order to achieve the development that the country so desires.
It appears Akufo-Addo has not known peace since he declared his government’s intention to construct a national cathedral earlier this year.
Many people argued that it was going to be a waste of time and resources to put up such a structure because the country needed more developmental projects.
YEN.com.gh published the report of a former deputy minister of information, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, claiming that the construction would cost Ghana a whooping $100 million.
According to him, it was sad that the government had decided to spend such a huge money that way when an ultramodern health facility could be built for the benefit of many.
Again, some Ghanaians expressed anger and disappointment in the president when photos of beautiful buildings being demolished for the construction of the national cathedral went viral.
To them, Akufo-Addo has erred with that decision.
