Born in Damongo, in the Damongo-Daboya constituency in the Northern Region, John Mahama Ghana political roots are as deep as anyone can go. His father, a wealthy politician from the first republic, served as the first Northern Region Regional Commissioner and later as a member of parliament and also as the presidential adviser to Hilla Limann. The John Mahama biography is telling of how he was destined to get to where he is now, having spent much of his early life with his mother, Abiba Nnaba, he later moved to Accra to live with his father. The John Mahama biography is quite impressive. He first taught secondary school after his undergraduate studies, he later went on to study in Russia and upon his return worked for the embassy of Japan in Accra from 1991-1995 as the Information, Culture, and Research officer. He later went on to work at Plan International’s Ghana Office as the International Relations, Sponsorship Communications and Grants Manager in 1995-96. In 1996, he became a Bole/Bamboi constituency leader. He then became the Deputy Minister of Communications and later Minister of Communications. He was the Minority Parliamentary Spokesman for Communications in his second term and also the Director of Communications for NDC. On 7th January 2009, he became the Vice President of Ghana. He served as the chairman of the Economic Management Team, the Armed Forces Council of Ghana, and the Decentralisation and Implementation committee among other things. He ascended to the presidency after the death of his predecessor, Former President John Atta Mills on 24th July 2012. He was re-elected in 2012 December for another 4-year-term that ended after his loss to President Nana Addo Danqua Akufo-Addo in 2016.
