An 18-year-old prisoner, Akwasi Sarfo, has reportedly broken out of prison, and is currently on the run.
The prison is located in the Assin Fosu district of the Assin North municipal of the Central Region.
Police officials revealed that on November 21, 2018, the officer on duty, PW/Constable Janet Essilfie, reported for duty at about 2 pm and was to be relieved at about 10 pm.
During the duty schedule, she allegedly left the keys to the male cells on the charge office counter, which is close to the cells, and stepped out to sit in front of the charge office.
While PW/Constable Essilfie was still outside around 6:40 pm, Sarfo, who was to serve a two-year term in a borstal institution, managed to join pieces of plywood used to panel the inner part of the cell, to lift the keys on the counter to his reach.
On her blindside, he allegedly opened the cell which was secured with two padlocks, and steadily escaped from the cell.
The police are however on a manhunt for the escapee and the case is under investigation.
