Corruption in Police service should be blamed on poor conditions of service - Top NDC member cries

- A top NDC member, Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has pinned the known corruption in the Police sercice to the poor conditions of service

- According to him, the personnel always find ways of doing corrupt things to meet up their needs

The former Central Regional chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has attributed the high level of corruption in the Ghana Police service in recent times to the working conditions of the personnel.

According to him, the police service does not provide conducive working conditions for its personnel, thus compelling them to engage in corrupt.

These acts he said eventually tarnish the image of the person involved and also of the service.

Allotey Jacobs howevee stated that the institutions responsible were not promoting the welfare of police so even if they are given one cedi, they would accept.

In comparison, Allotey Jacobs could not fathom why the military whose jod is to protect the country’s sovereignty were given better conditions while the police that protected the lives of people in the country were given none that.

Despite all these bad conditions of service stated by Allotey Jacobs, the police service recently positioned as the 8th best police force in Africa

The criteria for the ranking focused on the internal security of the police force in Africa by critically looking at the capacity, legitimacy and outcomes of their work.

The police service often been ranked top of corruption perception lists in the country with many Ghanaians often expressing their belief that police officers are corrupt, they still won/

Ghanaians are therefore urged to uphold and appreciate the police personnel in this country as they are among the best in Africa although they lack some needed logistics.
