Ishmael, who attended Suhum Presbyterian High School in the Eastern Region, was said to have been a shoemaker before he went to study at the University of Education, Winneba.

He wasn't despaired with respect to his background as he undoubtedly had to compete with students from a more affluent background and most likely had access to a higher quality of education.

Ishmael didn’t ask himself whether he belonged, but he rather went ahead and set his eyes on victory.
