- The students were said to be on suspension for skipping classes and allegedly smoking ‘weed’
- The teacher got furious and shot at them because they participated in the school’s entertainment when they were still on suspension
A teacher at Salaga SHS in the East Gonja Municipality of the Northern region, has allegedly fired gunshots at some students injuring one of them.
The injured, Mohammed Abdul Rauf, is in critical condition after he was allegedly shot by the teacher, Sulemana Osman, on Saturday, December 1, according to 3news.com report sighted by YEN.com.gh.
The incident reportedly happened outside the school's premises when students had closed from an entertainment programme on campus.
The injured student, together with three others, had been suspended from the school in November for skipping classes and allegedly smoking substance suspected to be wee.
Following that, they were suspended and expected not to take part in any of the school’s activity while they served their suspension.
However, they went against the school's decision and took part in a school activity.
Other students who saw the suspended students reported the issue to the teacher who decided to fire the gunshots at them.
“He came from the house with the gun and when he came and didn’t even meet them on campus he followed them and shot my brother” the victim’s brother reportedly said in an interview.
He added that the case had been reported to the police, but was “looking for money” for his brother's treatment after he was admitted at the Salaga Government Hospital.
“When we reported the issue to the police, they gave us a medical form and we went to Salaga government hospital. My brother has since been referred to Tamale and we are looking for money to go”, he said.
According to the sources, the teacher followed them to ask why they came to the school when they were supposed to be on suspension but a misunderstanding ensued, and the teacher shot and injured one of the students.
Efforts to reach the Salaga police to react on the matter has not been successful.
Sources close to the school also confirmed the four students were suspended after being investigated and found to have skipped classes and alleged to have been caught smoking substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
