- Fans also reacted to the Croatian midfielder winning the accolade

Cristiano Ronaldo's sisters Elma Aveiro and Katia are furious with the outcome of the Ballon d'Or results as Luka Modric clinched the accolade.

Ronaldo's elder sister, Elma, 39, said the results proved that the world was "rotten" and tainted by mafia and money.

After her brother and Lionel Messi's dominance was finally broken, Elma took to her social media handle in the aftermath of the announcement.

“Unfortunately this is the world we live in, rotten, with mafia and f******g money.

“The power of God is a lot greater than all this rottenness. God takes his time but he doesn’t fail.”

Roanldo's other sister, Katia, posted a picture of her brother when he won the previous award in 2017 and showered praises on him.

“Best player in the world….for those who understand football of course.”

But some supporters had a different view about Elma and Katia as they responded to their messages.

One said: “Cristiano came second. It’s being a bad sport to carry on the way you guys do.

“Congratulate the winner and hopefully Cristiano will win the next one.”

Another added: “Cristiano achieved a lot last season but Cristiano deserved to win.”

Celia Desousa took to social media to say: “I like Cristiano a lot and think he would have been a deserved winner.

“But Elma is very wrong with her comments, very wrong.”

There have not been any messages from his mum, Dolores, and his Spanish partner Georgina Rodriguez.
