NDC is struggling to pay ECG bills after 2 years in opposition - Report

- The NDC is reportedly facing financial challenges after two years in opposition

- It is alleged that the party is unable to pay its electricity bills

- A national executive, Sammy Gyamfi, however said that the party will rely on its supporters to help run its activities

Information available to YEN.com.gh shows that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is struggling to pay electricity bills for its headquarters.

This comes two years after it constructed an ultra-modern head office in Accra.

According to the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the party however needs to find a creative way to finance its operations.

For that reason, he went on to say that someone had to pay for the party to organize the congress to elect a flagbearer on January 19, 2019.

“The cost of living is high but somebody must pay the cost of running the elections; who is going to pay?” he asked.

The 13 aspiring NDC presidential candidates have expressed various concerns about the party’s nomination and filing fees for the selection of a flagbearer for the 2020 elections.

Alban S.K. Bagbin, one of the flagbearer aspirants, described the filling fee as opulent and elitist, and called on the party leadership to reverse it because it was against the tenets of social democracy, which was the party’s ideology.

NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, reportedly hinted that the party was presently financially unsound.

He went on to say that the NDC would rely heavily on donations by its teeming members across the country to organize the upcoming presidential primaries.
