- The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), has gone back to the use of the old logo which had been in existence for years.
- The old logo had the coat of arms and the eagles as it symbol, with transparency, fairness and integrity as its motto
The Electoral Commission has reverted to the use of the original Eagles and Coat of Arms logo which was controversially changed by the former EC boss, Charlotte Osei.
YEN.com.gh has sighted a memo written by the chairperson of the electoral commissioner, Jean Mensa copied to the deputy chairperson.
The memo read, “Effective December 4, 2018, the original logo of the Electoral Commission which bears the coat of arms and has a ballot box showing the hand casting its vote has been restored.”
Before the 2016 elections, former EC boss, Charlotte Osei, introduced a new logo as part of her efforts to rebrand the Commission.
Despite heavy criticisms by the opposition party at the time, and from some civil society organisations, the former EC boss stood by the decision to change the logo.
According to her, the commission picked the logo because they liked it and were also happy with it
Jean Mensa was appointed to chair the commission after Charlotte Osei was impeached earlier this year over allegations of misconduct and breach of procurement laws leveled against her.
Less than a year in office, Jean has ordered a reversal to the old logo which was changed by her predecessor.
In the memo announcing the reversion, the EC boss added that: “All communications from the Electoral Commission must from today be made on the letterhead bearing the original logo of the commission as appears on the face of this letterhead…”
