- An NDC flagbearer aspirant, Stephen Atubiga, has declared his intent to give the party $1 million dollars
- This, he said, is to help cater for the cost of organizing the party's congress
YEN.com.gh understands that an aspiring flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Stephen Atubiga, has pledged to support the party with an amount of $1 million.
This, he said, is to help ensure that costs involved in organizing the upcoming elections in January 2019 are catered for.
According to a report by 3news.com, his decision is borne out of growing concerns about the nomination and filing fees being charged by the party.
Eight aspirants including Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah and Joshua Alabi petitioned the founder of the NDC, Jerry John Rawlings, to intervene and make the party executives reduce the said amount.
The executives of the party, have however argued that the decision to charge such amounts were as a result of an intent to organize the upcoming congress.
After a meeting with the party’s Council of Elders, the prices of the nomination forms were maintained at GHC20,000.
The filing fees were however reduced from GHC400,000 to GHC300,000, and the date for the congress was moved to January 26, 2019.
