- Manchester United suffered a 2-1 shock defeat to Valencia in their last Group H Champions League fixture
- The lackluster performance from united players has seen Mourinho name the only players sure of a starting place against Liverpool
- The Red Devils will be facing an in-form Liverpool side in their next Premier League tie
Premier League giants, Manchester United, on Wednesday night, December 12, suffered a 2-1 shock defeat to La Liga side, Valencia, in their last Group H Champions League fixture.
The poor display from the Red Devils players, United boss, Jose Mourinho, has now named the three players who are certain of a starting place against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
United had a faint chance of finishing top of Group H in the European competition, but squandered the golden chance after the slump in Spain.
The English side went down in the first half after Carlos Soler's strike, before doubling the lead minutes into the second half through Phil Jones' own goal.
Mourinho was forced make a double tactical substitution, introducing Marcus Rashford and Ashley Young in place of Fred and Marcos Rojo.
Rashford and Young went on to make an immediate impact, alongside Jesse Lingard who was introduced in the 62nd minute.
The trio combined perfectly in the dying minutes to earn United a consolation as Rashford made good use of Young's 87th cross to plant a brilliant header home.
When asked if Young, Rashford and Lingard would start against Liverpool in his post match conference, Mourinho nodded in concession and said: "You have only to find eight more.."
The Portuguese boss went on to bemoan United's growing list of injuries that has left him with a major squad selection headache.
"Smalling is injured, Lindelof is injured, Darmian is injured, Martial is injured, Dalot is injured, the only two players I could bring and didn’t was De Gea and Matic," the UK Metro quoted Mourinho.
United will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they battle an in-form Liverpool side who currently top the Premier League.
