'Biiba ba', a song parially written by award-winning rapper Sarkodie, has garnered a lot of public interest in the last few weeks. This is because Sarkodie launched the song as a project to get young and upcoming rappers to market themselves.
In the run up to the release of the song somewhere last week, anticipation had outgrown most events in Ghana.
Music lovers had told the rapper on social media who they thought should be on the track and at the end Sarkodie chose 10.
As the video to Biibi Ba goes live on YouTube, YEN.com.gh ranks the rappers on the song from the best to the worst.
1. Lyrical Joe
Incidentally, Lyrical Joe was the first rapper on the song. He is obviously not the most popular of the ten but things might change.
Joe's flow, bar word play and discipline to sticking to subject matter of the song gets him full marks.
2. Kofi Mole
Kofi Mole comes in at second. He was also quite disciplined about the subject matter of the song and prowess of his flow was great.
He made playful references and that would make it easy for people to commit it to memory.
The third best performer on the song is Tulenkey. Prior to the song, he was one of the most popular emerging artistes.
Tulenkey switched flows in the 30 or so seconds he had while still accommodating for lyrical strength.
Also, a relatively unknown quantity, 2Fyngers just gave some life to his young career with that verse on Biibi Ba.
He did a lot of fast-pace delivery that surprisingly went well.
Frequency got a good dial on the song and delivered pretty good punchlines. He was however not as good as those higher on this list with regards to flow.
Frequency can however be proud of his memorable lines.
Toyboi was able to rap in Ga, pidgin English, Twi and standard English. That is supposed to be excellent.
However his flow was not top-notch. ToyBoi was not also quite adept at sticking to the topic at hand.
His flow was good but what hurt Amerado was the lack of memorable lines. In such a song, competition was key and Amerado could not overcome his competitors.
He could take consolation in the fact that he proved the strength of his flow.
OBkay perhaps suffered the same fate as Amerado. It was not the case that he was poor but that there were better rappers on the track.
His delivery and bars were simply okay.
Yeyo had a forgetful performance. His delivery and bars were below par.
The least said about his lack of punchlines the better. He did not make himself a new set of fans with this one.
10. CJ Biggerman
CJ Biggerman had a memorable performance for all the wrong reasons. This is because his delivery was funny.
His switch in flow was also quite appalling and to top it off, his lyrics were not the best.
