UDS lecturers ‘reject’ 5kg rice and cooking oil as Christmas packages

- Some UDS lecturers are upset about their Christmas packages received from their department

- The lecturers were allegedly given 5kg of rice and a gallon of cooking oil each

Information available to YEN.com.gh shows that some lecturers at the University of Development Studies (UDS) are seething with anger after being given their Christmas packages.

According to a report by Mynewsgh.com, the lecturers, who teach at the department of food science, were each given 5kg of rice and a gallon of cooking oil.

With sad faces, the lecturers allegedly took turns to sign before receiving the items they said is a mockery of their sacrifice to the university.

YEN.com.gh understands that the faculty has more than 300 lecturers, and none of them is particularly excited about the gift.

“Our colleagues in different faculties, are getting better packages than this. Some people took full bags of rice and they are just giving this to us”, a lecturer who spoke on grounds of strict anonymity lamented.

Meanwhile, the issue has generated a heated debate on a WhatsApp platform over plans to return the package in protest of the quantity they maintained did not befit their status as senior members of the university.

The president of the University Teachers Association of Ghana at the UDS, Prof. Addah, however said the package given to the lecturers was obtained from the GHC20 contributions from the lecturers themselves from their welfare fund.
