Video: Female police officer duped GHC60,000 in marriage scam

A Ghanaian female police officer has reportedly lost her GHC60,000 to a fraudster who duped her in a marriage scam.

The scammer, using the photos of one army officer, Nii Ofori Tawiah, who works at the 37 Military Hospital, befriended the victim and promised to marry her.

At a point in their 'relationship', the fraudster who claimed to be an army officer with the name Captain Richmond Tawiah and on a mission in Sudan told the policewoman that he had shipped two cars which they will use after their marriage.

To help with the shipping of the cars which were supposed to be a Cadillac and a Mercedes Benz, the victim was asked to pay GHC60,000 into an account which she gladly did in two tranches.

But after the payment, she waited for some time but the fake Captain Richmond Tawiah never showed up.

It was after the police officer asked around with the photos and realised that she had been duped.

According to Francis Kennedy Ocloo who shared the sad story to raise awareness about the new scam strategy, the female police officer was not the only victim as they were four in number so far.

Throwing more light on the matter, Francis Ocloo disclosed the fraudster who uses foreign numbers with a US or UK prefix had succeeded in avoiding video calls with claims that he was busy.

"The Awareness Army is raising this awareness that members and all internet users be extremely cautious. When dealing with such criminals at least try a VIDEO CALL once. With this criminal, each time the victim requested a video call, he said he was on operation in Sudan and they were not allowed video call. He uses foreign numbers: +14042710.....; +447517319....," Francis' post partly red.

Francis' post was accompanied by two videos which the fraudster sent to the victim.
